FACE mask TIPS

Although it is said that general face masks are less effective compared to surgical masks about "preventing" viruses, wearing a face mask of any kind will dramatically decrease the risk of you "spreading" the infections to other people - which leads to avoiding virus spreads and protecting yourself as a result.

Common non-woven disposable masks (surge masks) and cloth masks are said to be less effective at preventing virus entry, but they do prevent droplets from getting directly into the nose and mouth. Wearing a mask also dramatically lowers the risk of transmitting an infection to yourself and others, which in turn prevents the spread of infection and helps you protect yourself.

However, there is a shortage of masks in the medical field. It is necessary for each of us to handcraft, disinfect and reuse them, rather than hoard them haphazardly, so that we can all fight the new coronavirus.

Surgical masks (common non-woven disposable masks)

Surgical masks should not be wet. Functioning will be degraded. Also, the internal filter will deteriorate and become less functional at temperatures above 80 degrees. So what do we do?

  • Put it in a Ziploc or similar container to let the air out and seal it tightly.

  • Fill the container with 70°C water, put it in a Ziploc and leave it for one hour.

That's all. I think a low temperature cooker would work too. The virus will now be deactivated.

(This is just a way to regenerate it without dropping the level of functionality used in medical institutions. (If you are willing to go between the cloth mask and its original function, washing it and using it will be useful enough.

Cloth mask

The cloth face mask should be thoroughly washed with detergent, soap and other surfactants and dried normally.

Then the virus is deactivated.

Cloth mask(proofreading必要)

The HK mask, developed in Hong Kong, is a typical way to make a cloth mask.

If you are short of stock, making one for yourself is an option.

This is how to make one out of a long sleeve shirt or sweater.

Osaka University has developed a face shield made from A4 clear files that can be output by a 3D printer. Here's the data and a video on how to make it.
